Gudgeon weighing 50-100 g is considered one of the best baits for fishing most predatory fish species (pike, zander, asp, big perch or even catfish). It is interesting to know that pike bite on gudgeon even in water bodies where gudgeon doesn't have its natural habitat. Obviously, it can be explained by the fact that gudgeon resembles a juvenile pike and pike is known to feed on its own fry.
